The Council of Atlantic Premiers (CAP) Brazil Mission

The Council of Atlantic Premiers (CAP) led a trade mission to Brazil to promote innovative Atlantic business and post-secondary education cooperation opportunities. More than 75 business and education leaders from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador visited São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, October 21st-25th. Prince Edward Island Premier, Hon. Robert Ghiz, led the mission. Sunrise Group of Companies and Study Abroad Canada, joined the trade mission to Brazil and explored opportunities in business as well as education.

The mission’s goal was to build on existing relationships between Atlantic Canadian and Brazilian businesses and educational institutions. The mission also aimed at exploring new opportunities in strategic industries, such as aerospace and defence, information technology, education and research, food, oil and gas, ports, ocean technology and real estate development.

As Canada’s 11th largest trading partner, Brazil is a key market for Atlantic Canadian business and trade. Brazil is one of the world’s largest emerging global markets and there is immense opportunity for collaborative initiatives and business opportunities.

Frank Zhou, President of Sunrise Group, communicated with the Brazilian business community to discuss the vibrant opportunities to develop and cooperate on projects in Brazil and in Canada. He also shared his insight of the interests and strengths of industries in PEI and other provinces of Atlantic Canada.

Study Abroad Canada showcased their language learning and ESL teacher training opportunities to Brazilian students and teachers as well as the culture friendly environment in PEI. The mission provided SAC the opportunity to understand the unique demands of Brazilian students, which enabled them to design customized programs that meet these students’ specific needs.

During the delegation’s visit, they had a series of business meetings in which they exchanged opinions in regards to education collaborations, and enhanced mutual communications in many other areas.

There is no doubt that the mission led by Premier Hon. Robert Ghiz will strengthen the relationship between Prince Edward Island and Brazil. Many more collaboration opportunities in business and education sectors are expected after the mission and Sunrise Group is looking forward to them!
