PEI Fishery Mission to China
Co-organized and coordinated by Sunrise Groups, PEI fishery mission made up by Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development, PEI Fishermen’s Association, and well known aquaculture products enterprises in PEI arrived in Hong Kong October 26, 2011. From there, they started their 18 days visiting of Chinese fishery product’s market.
During their visiting in China, the delegation went over Hong Kong, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing. The delegation talked with local aquaculture enterprises, and established cooperation opportunities on joint efforts.
The delegation group has also participated and exhibited in 2011 China Fishery EXPO held in Qingdao. There are 900 enterprises from 39 countries exhibited in this year’s EXPO, among which, 18 countries have organized national exhibition team. It has been a new world record in the history of Fishery EXPO. During the EXPO, aquaculture products from PEI have successfully attracted buyers’ interest.
PEI is one of the most famous seafood producers in Canada. The American lobster that PEI produces is well known of its tender and delicious meat, and the mussels are named “Mussel King”. PEI mussels are healthy, nutritious, and rich in protein and minerals. The golden chief of Canada has also been invited to the exhibition to cook on site, the smell of delicious mussel draw many visitors’ interests. During the 3 days’ exhibition, thousands of visitors have showed their interests in PEI aquaculture products, many of them have come up with initiatives. The minister of Fisheries and Oceans, honourable Keith Ashfield and Canadian Ambassador to China, Mr. David Mulroney have also joined the EXPO, and spoke highly of the aquaculture products from PEI.
